Syllabus: | Drug discovery and design - Overview of the various stages, processes and technologies applied in drug discovery and design. Summary of key medicinal chemistry concepts and principles that underpin drug discovery e.g. SAR. Principles and applications of prodrugs in drug design and delivery. Medicinal chemistry of select drug groups - Discussion of a selection of the most clinically relevant drug groups. Includes basic chemical structure, SAR and key chemical, biological and medicinal properties. Drug groups will comprise of steroidal drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), anticancer drugs, cardiovascular drugs, antimicrobial drugs, CNS-acting drugs and antihistamines. |
