| Syllabus: | This unit covers the biology, classification and taxonomy of Australian marine life, focusing on marine fauna within the context of biodiversity monitoring, and the establishment of biological indices to inform managers of the state of specific marine environments. The main phyla found in temperate Australian waters are described with respect to anatomy and physiology, distinguishing features, life cycles, habitats and distribution. Practical sessions explore collection, identification and classification techniques, focusing on macro-invertebrate and finfish species. |
