Syllabus: | This unit provides an introduction to globalization and its impact upon Australia and the Asia Region. A core theme is how social and cultural identities in Australia and across the region are being affected by globalizing processes. Key topics include: what is meant by globalization; globalization and the nation-state; impact of globalization on work, community and environment; cultural and social responses to globalization; migration, cultural diversity and social cohesion in Australia and Asia; towards a post-global world. The unit is comparative and draws on materials from Australia and selected Asian countries. |
