| Syllabus: | The vaccine paradigm - historical aspects and review of mechanisms of the adaptive immune response; contemporary vaccine use in controlling infectious disease - immunogens and their molecular nature, adjuvants, immunization methods, nature of immune responses elicited, efficacy, and potential hazards; contemporary vaccine production and regulation; new generation vaccines - DNA vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines against cancer; case studies - specific examples of vaccine development and use to illustrate concepts and principles (eg. HPV, HIV, influenza, smallpox, polio). |
