Syllabus: | Unix Systems Programming 500200|500 will concentrate on the UNIX system call interface - the programming interface between the UNIX kernel and application software running in the UNIX environment. The basic subroutines described should be translatable to any flavour of UNIX. The unit introduces fundamental concepts, process management, threads, and inter-process communications, storage management, file systems, memory management, virtual memory and the I/O subsystem. Parallel to this the student is introduced to basic scripting via a series of examples and exercises. The scripts used to administer the learning environment are examined in order to introduce the student to basic systems administration tasks. |
