Syllabus: | Fundamentals of mapping in the spatial sciences. Map scale, map direction, geometry of the Earth, map symbols, relief representation. The nature of colour and its convention in cartography. Concepts of map projections, introduction to the Universal Transverse Mercator and the Map Grid of Australia. Application of CAD software packages to represent spatial data in two dimensions. CAD coordinate systems, element placement and manipulation, editing and reference files. |
