Introduction

This program is designed to provide a sound understanding of the process of financial planning, together with the fundamental skills and knowledge required in professional practice. The course provides a good foundation for those wanting to gain employment in the finance industry, and also enables professionals currently employed in these areas to further develop their skills.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution in a field other than financial planning. Applicants with a non-business background may be required to complete up to four additional foundation units.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available externally. Depending on their previous field of study, students may be required to complete up to four additional foundation units before commencing the first stage. The fulltime intake for this course is in semester 2 of each year, although part-time students can commence in semester 1 or 2.

Professional Recognition

This course is accredited by the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) as an approved postgraduate qualification leading to the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification assessment. This bypasses the CFP education program required of those with undergraduate qualifications in financial planning. The course is on the financial services training register as meeting the knowledge and skill requirements of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) Regulatory Guide (RG) 146.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
