Introduction

This course is designed for professionals already in the field of language teaching. The course, which concentrates on teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), considers issues connected with TESOL teaching in Australia and the region andthe teaching of Asian languages within Australia. The department that runs this course has particular expertise in teaching English as well as modern standard Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean. The course is designed for teachers intending to workin Australia and overseas and is available to international students.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree of at least three years full-time study or part-time equivalent and a relevant postgraduate course of at least one year full-time study or part-time equivalent and appropriate teaching experience or a bachelor degree of at least four years full-time study or part-time equivalent and appropriate teaching experience or a bachelor degree of at least three years full-time study or the part-time equivalent, an approved diploma and appropriate teaching experience and a proven research background (for example Researching Language 500) which will allow for successful completion of a Language Project 600. Proficiency in English must also be at a level which will allow them to cope with the linguistic demands of the course. As a guideline, candidates who do not have english as a first language will have a minimum proficiency of 6.5 (IELTS).

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
