Syllabus: | Chemistry of alkyl halides, alcohols, esters, amines, carbonyl compounds and polyfunctional aliphatic compounds including carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids. Reaction mechanisms and industrial applications. Laboratory work: preparative organic chemistry illustrating techniques and reaction types. Identification of unknown organic compounds using chemical and spectroscopic methods. Quantitative organic analysis. |
