Syllabus:	The unit traces the main sets of ideas that have shaped the development of the discipline of geography from classical conceptions of the subject through to the broad range of contemporary approaches. At the end of the unit you will have an understanding of geography's historical development, a knowledge of the diverse approaches to contemporary geography and have a better understanding of it's position within the social sciences. Also, you will learn how geography has influenced and been influenced by the interchange of ideas with its cognate disciplines.
