Introduction

The environmental contribution to major childhood diseases is substantial, but is not borne equally with children in low-income and developing countries being more susceptible to the health consequences of adverse environmental exposures. This effect is compounded by poverty and under nutrition. The Children's Environmental Health major is designed to give the student an understanding of the vulnerability of children to environmental exposures and to examine how exposures impact on major childhood diseases. This course is suited to those with an interest in the environment, in environmental health and in children's health including those wishing to work as Environmental Health Officers, Health care professionals or those with a general interest in the area.
