This course provides skills and knowledge, plus an understanding of the growth, uses and future development and application of the Internet. Students are educated in aspects of Internet use or development for information dissemination and design, communication and community-building, policy development and advanced research skills. The course is designed to complement and extend existing knowledge, combining a general qualification with more specific educational opportunities to learn in a way that best suits existing needs and priorities. Creative overlap between current employment and study is emphasised.
A bachelors degree with an appropriate level of achievement in any field from a recognised tertiary education institution. Students unable to enrol directly into the Masters program may gain entry through enrolment in the Graduate Diploma in Internet Studies and successful completion of specified units in that course.
Students are required to have and maintain reliable Internet access.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Credit may be awarded for prior learning and demonstrated existing skills.
This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time study or equivalent part-time study through flexible delivery using Internet technologies, including additional classes for on-campus students. Class attendance is mandatory for international students in Australia.
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:
Graduate Certificate in Internet Studies; Graduate Diploma in Internet Studies.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
Students should note that master level units require substantial and independent advanced project work. Students may incur a cost for personal Internet access.
Curtin University reserves the right to alter the internal composition of any course to ensure learning outcomes retain maximum relevance. Any changes to the internal composition of a course will protect the right of students to complete the course within the normal timeframe and will not result in additional cost to students through a requirement to undertake additional units.
