Lecture: 1 x 2 Hours Weekly
Syllabus: Pharmacy and pharmacology: basic mechanisms of drug action; pharmacokinetics; drugs, dosage and toxicity; drugs and receptors; agonists and antagonists; routes of administration, biotransformation and excretion; factors affecting responses to drugs; pharmacogenetics; immunopharmacology; drug tolerance and drug interaction. Drugs acting on the nervous system, drugs affecting the heart, and drugs used to treat high blood pressure, allergies, fever, inflammation and pain. Drugs affecting behaviour, sedativeand anti-anxiety drugs, anti-psychotic and anti-depressant drugs. Recreational drugs including alcohol, cannabis and ecstasy.
