Syllabus: Meaning of colonialism, nationalism, and the peasantry. Interpreting Indian history, historical background to Indian nationalism, major stages in the development of the Indian nationalist movement. Indian nationalist movement, Gandhi and the peasants, Gandhi and the pacification of the Indian national revolution. Case studies of agrarian unrest, Congress, peasants and elections.
