Introduction

The relative failure of curative medicine to significantly reduce morbidity and mortality rates in recent years has led to an increasing emphasis on preventative measures. This stream is a major component of this preventative approach. It has been developed to further knowledge and increase skills in the major principles pertaining to health promotion, current issues in health promotion and the process of planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs in various settings.
