Electrical, magnetic and thermal properties of materials. Band theory of solids, conductors, insulators, semiconductors, intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors and p-n junctions. Superconduction and the Hall effect. Photoconductivity and photoemission, masers and lasers. Dielectrics, ferroelectricity, dielectric strength and capacitance. Optical and molecular polarisability. |
