Syllabus:

Significance of hardness, tensile strength, creep, fatigue, impact strength and fracture toughness. Techniques for measurement. Modes of deformation, yielding in metals and polymers, theories of yield point, influence of grain size, mechanisms of creep and fatigue. Mechanisms of fracture.
