Syllabus:

Focuses on issues that concern mathematics education and the community at large. Illustrative issues are the use and role of calculators, the promotion of number sense and personal calculating methods, the adoption of a constructivist approach, the findings of international comparisons such as PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) and TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), and the imposition of a set numeracy hour by government. The issues will be described, analysed, compared to alternatives throughout the world and their impact on the classroom and learning discussed.
