Use of problem-based learning. Introduction of modelling and experimentation in the context of a real mechatronic machine. Knowledge and skills developed include introduction to the concepts, role and methods of modelling, experimental design to determine stall torque and torque-speed characteristics of a DC motor, application of system principles, application of Newton's Laws to dynamic systems and efficiency calculations.
