Syllabus: |
Review of fundamental principles in fluid mechanics. Ideal fluid flow - stream function and velocity potential. Laplace equation - superposition, flow modelling, circulation and lift. Viscous effects - laminar and turbulent boundary layers, transition, skin-friction drag, slender-body theory, drag coefficient and similarity. Free-surface flows - open-channel flow, Froude number, subcritical and supercritical flows, hydraulic jump and wave drag. Compressible flow. Mach number, adiabatic and isentropic flow, shock waves, lift and drag. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
