Syllabus: |
Introduces students to the fundamental concepts and principles of process synthesis and design and the use of flow sheet simulators (e.g. HYSYS) to assist in process design, and the application of economics in venture analysis. Includes process synthesis; process flowsheeting; unit operation models and solution strategies; degree of freedom analysis of the process; tearing and flow sheet partitioning (structure graphs of process models), design specifications; state observability and controllability; model simplification and reduction. The use of HYSYS in process design and application of knowledge learned to design and cost a basic chemical process in a simple design project. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
