This course is for graduates without a professional level qualification in librarianship who wish to obtain such a qualification. Students are introduced to professional principles, attitudes and skills.
Any degree except a recognised professional-level degree course in library studies. As the course is heavily dependent on computer skills, applicants should develop competency in word-processing, and use of Internet browser software before commencement of the course.
Regular and reliable Internet access is required.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. External study is also available.
A fieldwork component, taken during the inter-semester break, allows students to put into practice, in a supervised work environment, the theory gained during the first semester. Fieldwork placements are also arranged for external students.
Graduates are eligible for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Students may incur a cost for personal Internet access.
