This is a general applied psychology program emphasising the application of knowledge to problems arising in professional practice. It provides a thorough understanding of the theoretical framework within which various approaches and techniques have been developed. Experimental design relevant to applied research is an important aspect of work within this course. The practicum component of the course provides appropriate practical experience in the application of psychological principles and research methods to the functioning of individuals, groups and organisations.
A recognised bachelor degree majoring in psychology. Entry is competitive with applicants evaluated on academic merit, referee reports, relevant work experience and an interview.

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or two years part-time study. The course is presented as a sequential package and it is not possible to commence at any time other than the start of the academic year.
Graduates are eligible to apply for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society. A further two years training, by means of graduate studies and/or professional work supervised by a senior psychologist, is necessary to gain full professional recognition and membership of the society. In Western Australia, a fourth year course in psychology is required for provisional registration. A further two years practice in psychology is required for full registration as a psychologist.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
Students may elect to complete units in Rehabilitation Counselling while completing the requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology. Emphasis is placed on knowledge of functional limitations imposed by the major types of disabling conditions, assessment and case management skills with injured and disabled clients, laws and regulations impacting on rehabilitation and the planning and coordination of rehabilitation services.
