Introduction

The Bachelor of Arts (Languages and Asian Cultures) provides students with the skills necessary to enter professions requiring communication with peoples of different cultures and languages. Graduates of this degree and associated double degrees possess functional knowledge of at least one Asian language and culture. The course offers a choice of majors in Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, TESOL, and Asian Studies. In-country study that utilises the numerous exchange agreements and studyabroad programs offered by Curtin University is strongly encouraged. The flexible nature of the course allows students to prepare a program of study suitable to individual academic interests and professional vocational needs, including units from other Divisions in the University. In recent years graduates have had no difficulty in finding employment in a wide variety of professions, both in Australia and Asia. Graduates of this course may be invited to enrol in an honours year, and may eventually be considered for admission to a graduate course.
