This course is designed to provide students with the administrative, legal and management skills needed to forecast and manage future developments in the sports industry. The Master of Sports Administration is designed to provide students with the theoretical foundations and techniques of sports administration, law and management together with practical business applications. Students study a broad range of national and international sports organisations at both amateur, professional and Olympic levels.
A bachelor degree (or equivalent) in business, commerce or a related field from a recognised tertiary institution or completion of a Graduate Diploma in Sports Adminsitration. Alternatively, a minimum of two years relevant experience in the sports or other suitable industry.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.
A student who has completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval from the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course are:
Graduate Certificate in Sports Administration; Graduate Diploma in Sports Administration.
Graduates will meet the academic requirements for membership of the Institute of Sport management and the Australia and New Zealand Sports Law Association.
Graduates may find employment in both the public and private sectors including organisations such as Department of Sport and Recreation, national and state sporting organisations, institutes and academies of sport, professional league clubs (AFL, NRL, ARU and NBL), recreation centres and event management agencies.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
