Western Australia 1826-1971. Exploration, imperial rivalry and the settlement of the Swan River colony. Trading patterns in nineteenth century Western Australia. Cycles of economic development and changing perceptions of state - capital relations. Development of political parties. Social impact of gold rushes and depression. Women in Western Australian society, plus a major research paper.
