The Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed for improving English language proficiency. It is also intended for students interested in pursuing tertiary education who meet the academic requirements, but lack the language proficiency to do so. There are five levels: elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced.
An elementary level of English is the minimum entry requirement.
There are three intakes terms and a year at the Miri Campus. However, additional classes may be arranged for international students (neither a Malaysian nor a permanent resident of Malaysia). Each term is made up of 10 teaching weeks. In each term, mid-term and end of term tests will be conducted to determine progress to higher levels. There are 20 contact hours per week. Each level comprises 12 hours of core work and eight hours of elective work.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
