Syllabus: Classification of composite materials, applications, comparison of properties with other materials. Manufacturing routes for fibre reinforced materials. Structure and properties of fibres and matrices. Elastic properties, models of stress distribution. Plasticity of FR materials. Fracture mechanisms. Applications of principles to metal, ceramics and polymer matrices.
