Lecture: 1 x 25 Hours Weekly
 
Syllabus: Laboratory testing of rock samples - uniaxial and triaxial testing, tensile strength, hardness and abrasiveness tests, fracture toughness tests, post failure behaviour, elastic wave velocities. Geotechnical instrumentation in underground and open pit mining - stress and displacement measurements. Monitoring, analysis and prediction of rock mass behaviour.
