303283 v.1 Bachelor of Engineering (Minerals Engineering), Bachelor of Science (Mining)BEng(Hons)(Curtin) OR BEng(Curtin) BSc(Curtin) Course CRICOS Code: 050571F Registered Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas: 5 Years IntroductionThis double degree equips students to work in a professional capacity in both minerals engineering and mining engineering areas of the minerals and energy industries, through a strategic alliance between the Western Australia School of Mines' Minerals Engineering and Mining Engineering programs. In the engineering degree students major in minerals engineering. In the science degree, students major in mining technology. Minerals engineering require a sound knowledge and understanding of chemistry and the principles of engineering, particularly chemical engineering. Mineral engineers are involved in plant design, development, operations and control management and research. Mining engineers are responsible for the design, planning and operation of a mine. Many responsibilities are defined by law. Management of underground mines is restricted to mining engineering graduates. Course Entry Requirements/PrerequisitesTEE Calculus, Applicable Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Specific RequirementsIn order to be adequately trained as a professional engineer, it is mandatory that the student undertake 12 weeks of relevant practical experience during the course. Students will be required to complete an approved first aid course prior to being eligible for course completion. STAT elements considered are E and Q. Duration and AvailabilityThis course is five years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Course OrganisationThe first two years of the course may be undertaken either on the Bentley or Kalgoorlie Campus. The first six semesters focus particularly on minerals engineering, semesters seven and eight focus on mining engineering and semesters nine and ten complete the minerals engineering major. The professional years, three to five, are studied in Kalgoorlie. Professional RecognitionThe Engineering degree is accredited by the Institute of Engineers, Australia. Graduates are also eligible for membership of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Additional Course ExpensesStudents may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
