Course Entry Requirements/PrerequisitesEither an honours degree in and related to Public Health or one of the several Postgraduate Diplomas offered by the School in Public Health, Health Sciences, Health Promotion, Health Administration or Occupational Health and Safety. Degrees that are equivalent from other recognised tertiary education institutions are also accepted. There is a further requirement that students must demonstrate evidence of high performance (course weighted average of 70 per cent) combined with a background in research methodology. Applicants without this requirement may be required to enrol in additional bridging units. Applicants with a postgraduate or honours degrees in other areas, eg. Nursing, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Human Communication Science, Chemistry, Biology, Veterinary Sciences or Engineering among others, may also apply but may need to take some additional bridging units in specific areas of Public Health. Duration and AvailabilityThe course is by research and normally requires one to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study. Course OrganisationThis course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator, School of Public Health. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis willbe required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration. Additional Course ExpensesStudents may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. Special NoteIt is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this course to receive a related Postgraduate Diploma.
