Introduction
This course provides those with experiences and/or interests in this field of work with a professional qualification. It provides an appreciation of community development theories and practices informed by diversity of critical theory. Specialised knowledge in community development, the 'use of self' in professional practice are discussed along with an exploration of working with diverse communities and the importance of context. Combining reflection on work in the field with a appreciation of various theoretical frameworks, personal awareness and ongoing experience contribute to a critically reflective practice.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A three year degree in a related discipline, plus a minimum of one year's documented relevant work experience. All applicants will need to complete an application form, provide a Curriculum Vitae, certified copies of other related qualifications, a personal statement and two references, and attend an interview with the program coordinator.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Not more than two units will be exempted and exemptions will not be granted based solely on work experience.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
The course is delivered in a variety of modes including late afternoon and early evening on-campus lectures, weekend workshops or weekend blocks.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may find employment, both locally and internationally, within government departments, community organisations, local government and international aid projects.
