| Syllabus: | Strong leadership is required to achieve public health goals of reducing inequities and improving health. This work is complex and requires action from multiple stakeholders. Understanding the role of leadership and professional identity as part of achieving these goals is critical. This unit introduces students to the theory, principles and practice of leadership in a public health context, assisting students to develop their public health professional identity. Students will strengthen their leadership knowledge enabling the critical use of this understanding by applying theory to practice. The unit employs authentic leadership approaches such as teamwork and collaboration, experiential learning and self-development. This unit will cover: leadership definitions, theory and approaches; the role of leadership in public health; practical application of leadership frameworks; leadership styles; professional identity, values and ethics in public health. |
