| Syllabus: | This unit introduces students to the formation, structure, and properties of engineering materials, including metals, ceramics, and polymers and their main uses in the resources industry. The relationships between load bearing, wear, and corrosion considerations and managing materials properties will be explored through looking at the fundamental mechanical properties and testing of engineering materials. Students will analyse materials failure from the point of view of fatigue, creep, wear and corrosion/erosion considerations. Students will examine selection of materials for dry and wet wear applications in the resources industry based on wear mechanisms and testing. |
