| Syllabus: | The Midwife standards for practice (2018) inform the scope of this unit. Students undertake clinical practice experiences to develop and deepen learning related to assessment, planning and evaluation of clinical care across the childbirth continuum for the mother-baby dyad. This unit develops the midwifery student as an initial entry professional midwife who is aware of her/his own midwifery philosophy and able to engage reflective practice and preparation for professional audit. Development of student competence is demonstrating evidence informed skills for practice and decision making in a range of maternity care settings and models of care is a key feature in this unit. The Midwife standards for practice (2018) form the core framework used to demonstrate that the midwifery student is able to practice as a beginning midwife, with an emphasis on collegiality, collaboration and interprofessional practice. This unit includes experience in woman-centred care as part of midwifery continuity of care with individual women through pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period. |
