| UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: | The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline. |
| Syllabus: | This unit is an introduction to the principles of explosive engineering, drill and blast design in surface and underground mining operations, including the application of machine mining for rock breakage and autonomous and remote operation drills. The unit examines the links between the rock breakage function and downstream mineral processing and waste management functions. It also emphasises safety aspects of explosive engineering; environmental and social impacts, including on local and environmental and social impacts of mining. Students will acquire an understanding of state-of-the-art techniques in environmental management of mine sites as well as being able to identify the major issues and management strategies associated with social/community engagement and impacts, particularly in relation to Indigenous communities in Australia and internationally. Students’ communication and collaborative skills will also be developed in this unit. Students will also be required to participate in a 3 week industry placement |
