| Syllabus: | This unit will acquaint students with the theory and practice of photographic construction for online and print journalism and equip students with an understanding of the function of photojournalism and associated critical theory. Students will be required to generate journalistic images of publishable quality for the Western Independent website. Topics covered include: photojournalistic composition; introduction to creative zone setting of digital SLR cameras including depth of field, shutter and motion; the photo essay; introduction to picture editing; the decisive moment; photography and truth; historical perspectives; and practical exercises that simulate common scenarios faced by photo journalists that take into account legal and ethical considerations. |
