| Syllabus: | The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Midwife standards for practice (2018) inform the scope of this unit. This unit develops the midwifery student as an initial entry professional midwife who is aware of her/his own midwifery philosophy and able to engage in reflective practice and preparation for professional audit. Students undertake clinical practice. Development of student competence in demonstrating evidence-informed skills for practice and decision making in a range of maternity care settings and care for women with complex psychosocial needs is a key feature of this unit. The Midwife standards for practice (2018) form the core framework used to demonstrate that the midwifery student is able to practice as a registered midwife, with an emphasis on collegiality, collaboration and inter-professional practice. This unit includes experience in woman-centred care as part of midwifery continuity of care with individual women through pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period. |
