| Syllabus: | This unit introduces students to an understanding of prayer and morality in the Catholic tradition. The Catholic worldview understands that education of the whole person includes both a spiritual and moral dimension. The significance of religious faith is explored in the context of spiritual development. Research into the place of prayer in the childhood and teenage years will be examined. This knowledge is applied to the practice of teaching knowledge about and skills for prayer in the Catholic school. The human search for happiness is evaluated, drawing on the wisdom of both western and eastern cultures, that links this search to the human inclination to choose what is good. Everyday experiences are used to build up an understanding of this link. Influences that shape ethical and moral decision making are explored and also applied to classroom teaching. |
