Syllabus: | Bonding theory - valence bond, molecular orbital treatment of diatomic and polyatomic molecules. S and P block chemistry - group trends and bonding, silicates and industrial applications. Solid state chemistry - packing of ions in solids, typical AX, AX2and selected crystal structures. Lattice defects, non-stoichiometric compounds, thermodynamics, substitutional, interstitial, subtractional and non-stoichiometric phases. |
