Syllabus: Introduction to protein structure: Proteins, enzymes, Metabolism: intermediary metabolism. Lipids. Nitrogen metabolism Blood glucose, U and E Co-factors and Coenzymes: Hormone action. Principles of pharmacology: mechanisms of drug action; molecular andbiochemical basis of drug-receptor interactions. Autonomic Nervous System: Neurohumoral transmission and the autonomic nervous system. Muscarinic receptor agonists and antagonists; anticholinesterase; nicotinic Drugs acting on the sympatho-adrenal nervous system. Sympathomimetic drugs; sympathetic receptors. Serotonergic (5-HT) transmission: Classification of serotonergic receptors. Serotonin receptor agonists and antagonists.
