Syllabus: | The principles and application of financial technical modelling to mining projects and financing are covered in this unit. Topics include the time value of money in nominal and real dollar terms, depreciation, taxes, royalties and other inputs to discounted cash flow evaluations. The financial technical modelling of mine operations. Introduction to economics, mineral economics and mineral supply processes. Commodity markets and marketing. Estimation of mine revenues for different types of mining operations. Project financing, role of debt, equity and joint ventures. The feasibility study process, reliability weaknesses, importance of reliable mining capital and operating costs. Project risks, resource and reserve risks, the JORC code, mining method risk,milling risks, failures of project integration. Identification and quantification of project risks, sensitivity analysis and simulation. Cut-off grades and project optimisation in the context of financial technical modelling. Evaluation of operation alternatives. |
