Syllabus: Physiological principles of the afferent systems, in particular those subserving pain. Concepts of sensation and perception and the structures involved in the pain experience. Joint receptors, the gate control theory and the descending pain control systems. Effect of pain on normal movement patterns and physical methods of pain relief.
