Syllabus: | General review of stability. Stability problems associated with intravenous fluids, total parenteral nutrition solutions including emulsion formulations and drug solutions stored in the frozen state in the clinical setting. Stability calculations and conversion of basic data for use in clinical situations. Influence of formulation on injection site, phlebitis and microbial contamination. Formulation of total parental nutrition (TPN) solutions. Solubility problems associated with pharmaceutical systems such as intravenous fluids. The effects of changing solvent, common-ion effect, salting out and pH. Formulating specific dosage forms for the clinical setting. |
