Syllabus: Worldwide trends in the sustainability of rural communities. The nature, form and distribution of rural settlements and communities. Demographic composition and change. The impact of economic, technological and social change, centralisation, improved communications, work patterns, telecommuting, counter-urbanisation, and long distance commuting. Public policy at the national, regional and local scales.
