Introduction

This course has four majors specialising in geoscience, mine technology, mineral processing and mine surveying.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

One TEE mathematics subject.

Specific Requirements

STAT elements considered are E and Q.

Note

Mineral processing major - well qualified applicants lacking prerequisites may still be considered for all courses. The associate degree may be used as a pathway into the science course and science students may transfer to engineering after satisfactory performance at University. Mine surveying major - applicants without one TEE mathematics subject may still be considered, but required to complete bridging units. Geoscience major - the associate degree may be used as a pathway into the science course after satisfactory performance at University. Mining major - well qualified applicants lacking prerequisites may still be considered for all courses. The associate degree may be used as a pathway into the science course and science students may transfer to engineering after satisfactory performance at University.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Additional Course Expenses

Students are expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Students will require a laboratory coat.

Further Information

The first year of the Associate Degree is available only at Bentley and the second year only at Kalgoorlie to maximise industry exposure and employment prospects. Students must nominate a discipline upon enrolment, but the first year of all steams exceptmine surveying is common. Special Note

Students undertaking mine surveying majors are required to have access to a portable electronic programmable calculator having hard wired trigonometrical subroutines and a minimum capacity of 10 significant figures.
