Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas:
1.5 Years
This course is comprehensive in nature and provides multidisciplinary education and hands-on training in petroleum engineering. Candidates completing the course are expected to work as fully qualified petroleum engineers requiring minimum supervision in the upstream oil and gas industry. The teaching staff in the Department are professionals with many years of working experience in the oil and gas industry. This course is structured around a modular approach and each module takes one month of intensive lectures and application training on actual oil and gas field examples.
An honours degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or science discipline. Candidates with degrees in other disciplines may be considered where they have relevant work experience.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time study. Continuing progress is subject to satisfactory performance. A student will not be permitted to progress in the master program unless a mark of 65 per cent is achieved in all units. Students who do not achieve this level of academic performance may apply for an intermediate award.
A student who has completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval from the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:
Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering
The course is organised on a block modular format with almost 50 per cent of the time spent on applications of the knowledge using real oil and gas field data.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
Extensive computer hardware and software are available for use as is the Society of Petroleum Engineers online information library.
Curtin University reserves the right to alter the internal composition of any course to ensure learning outcomes retain maximum relevance. Any changes to the internal composition of a course will protect the right of students to complete the course within the normal timeframe and will not result in additional cost to students through a requirement to undertake additional units.
