This course is designed to provide students with competence in an Asian language (Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese or Korean), training in the sociolinguistic knowledge necessary for interaction with speakers from diverse cultural backgrounds, and knowledgeabout business systems in the Asian region. It is designed for beginners with no prior study of the language. Those with some prior study are assigned to a class of appropriate level.
A degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
As the two language units must be taken consecutively, the course cannot be completed in one semester of full-time study. This fee-paying course is two semesters part-time duration.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
Curtin University reserves the right to alter the internal composition of any course to ensure learning outcomes retain maximum relevance. Any changes to the internal composition of a course will protect the right of students to complete the course within the normal timeframe and will not result in additional cost to students through a requirement to undertake additional units.
