This course is designed to focus particularly on current issues in sport law and management. The increased complexity of the sport management environment has resulted in the significant need for professionally qualified administrators in this field. Thiscourse provides theoretical and practical knowledge in legal, management and administration issues faced by today's sport managers.
A bachelor degree (or equivalent) in business, commerce or a related field from a recognised tertiary institution or completion of a Graduate Certificate in Sports Administration. Alternatively, a minimum of two years relevant employment experience in the sports or other suitable industry.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.
A student who has completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval from the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:
Graduate Certificate in Sports Administration.
Graduates will meet the academic requirements for membership of the Institute of Sport Management and the Australia and New Zealand Sports Law Association.
Graduates may find employment in both the public and private sectors, including organisations such as the Department of Sport and Recreation, national and state sporting organisations, institutes and academies of sport, professional league clubs (AFL, NRL, ARU and NBL), recreation centres and event management agencies.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
