Introduction to primary research - searching and identifying research material, use of the library, electronic databases and the internet, SPI booklet. Harvard referencing. Paraphrasing and summarising. Plagiarism. Synthesising information from more thanone text. Formal language use in academic writing. Presentation requirements for university assignments - language, audience and purpose, thesis statements and introduction to report and essay writing. Continuing primary and secondary research, introduction to report writing - decimal notation, recommendations, writing introductions, conclusions and executive summaries, integrating visuals into reports. Introduction to essay writing - logical argument development, sentence and paragraph structure, clear,correct writing. Integrating primary and secondary research into written assignments. Oral communication skills - language, purpose, audience and context, non-verbal language and collaborative and teamwork skills. |
